The holidays are a time to share, relax, and overall enjoy. All those dinners, the family gathers, and parties are incredible opportunities to get together and delight with holiday delicacies. Unfortunately, after the holidays pass, some things remain, and those things can be extra pounds in your belly. The average American can gain up to 6 pounds in the season between Thanksgiving and New years eve. However, and sadly, the majority of people never shred these pounds and end up gaining and gaining weight.Today, I want to share a couple tips with you that have helped me wonders to stay as healthy (as possible) during the holidays, without feeling deprived or restricted. Holiday tips to stay healthy. Eat when you are hungry: a tipical mistake that we tend to make when we are trying to lose weight is restricting ourselves. I believe this is not a good idea because you can end up overeating on your next meal, so if you are hungry eat a healthy snack, drink a cup of tea, or drink some water to tide you over until meal time. Enjoy the company: the holidays are a great time to get together with those that we love and that we haven`t seen in a while. Focus on people, and if you get offered a cookie, eat it with moderation, remember that enjoying your loved ones is the goal. Choose your splurges: Its impossible to not want to try everything at thanks giving or Christmas dinner, so our recommedation is to choose a couple dates during the holidays where you feel free to try all the dishes without feeling guilty about it. The rest of the days make an effort to eat as healthy as possible. Remember, its not about binging the whole vacation, but enjoying the key days of it. Keep your goals on mind: When I started my weight loss journey 5 years ago, I remember not wanting to get overweighted during the holidays, but wanting to loose weight instead. My goal was 2 kilos (4 pounds), so even when I was visiting my family house, I was still taking walks, eating healthy breakfasts and keeping my goals in mind during that season. Even a 20 minute workout session can make a huge difference. After newyears eve that year, I came back to work and everybody complemented on the fact that I looked thinner. Just say no: Sometimes is hard to say no to a second plate, another wine, or even to a piece of cake. However, keeping your goals on mind and stick to them focusing on all that you are gaining with a healthier life. Plan ahead: Ensure that you have all that you need to accomplish your goals. Make the right grocery shoppings, pack healthy snacks, or even take your sneakers into your holiday travel items to ensure your daily workout. Celebrate your accomplishments: Celebrate each step of the way and reward yourself for the things you have done right! Buy a dress, go to the movies, get some flowers, do something special (that doesnt involve overeating) that would make you feel rewarded. Remember the holiday season is meant to be enjoyed, and by following our tips you will be able to do it while still sticking to your goals.
